Lake Chala Day Trip Itinerary

7:30 AM – Your adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel by your local guide, who will transport you to Lake Chala. Enjoy a mini-Safari along the way as you travel through the changing landscapes of Eastern Tanzania. On a clear day, you may be treated to stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.
10:00 AM – Arrive at Lake Chala and meet your park guide. They will recommend a hiking route based on the day’s conditions. You can choose from a variety of trails, such as hiking to the river, the old Baobab tree, or the lookout point above Lake Chala. Since the park offers little shade, be sure to bring a hat and wear sunscreen if you tend to burn.
12:30 PM – Take a well-deserved break for lunch at the Lake Chala restaurant, located at a scenic lookout point. A lunchbox is included in your package, but you also have the option to order additional meals at the park for an extra cost.
1:30 PM – After lunch, it’s time to hike down to the lake for an afternoon of kayaking and swimming. You can explore the lake at your own pace in a kayak or join the park guide for a guided kayak Safari. The lake extends into Kenya, so you may even have the chance to kayak to the border. As Lake Chala was formed by an old volcanic crater, its shoreline is steep. If you're not a strong swimmer, be sure to wear the provided life vest while kayaking and swimming for safety.
4:00 PM – After enjoying your time at the lake, the park guide will bring you back to the entrance station. A tip for the guide is always appreciated if you had a pleasant experience.
7:00 PM – Arrive back at your hotel in Moshi, bringing an unforgettable day at Lake Chala to a close.
This well-paced itinerary offers a perfect balance of exploration, adventure, and relaxation, making for an unforgettable day in one of Tanzania’s most beautiful hidden gems.
